Finally Live: The Rollercoaster Ride of Launching FriedReads
Join me as I recount the challenges and triumphs of bringing FriedReads to life, from coding nightmares to the thrill of seeing it all come together.
Finally Live: The Rollercoaster Ride of Launching FriedReads
The Journey Begins
It's January 5th, 2025, and I'm sitting here, staring at my screen with a mix of exhaustion and elation. FriedReads is finally live, but oh boy, what a journey it's been!
The Late-Night Coding Sessions
For weeks, I've been burning the midnight oil, fueled by an unhealthy amount of coffee and determination. There were nights when I thought I'd never see the end of this tunnel:
- JavaScript Jungle: Navigating through the dense forest of JavaScript, trying to make everything work seamlessly.
- PHP Puzzles: Debugging PHP scripts that seemed to have a mind of their own.
- Database Dilemmas: Wrestling with MySQL, coaxing it to play nice with my queries.
The Eureka Moments
But amidst the frustration, there were moments of pure joy:
- When the first article loaded correctly
- The day I finally got the pagination working
- That magical moment when the theme switcher actually switched themes!
Lessons Learned
Through this process, I've learned more than just coding:
"NOTHING! NOTHING! NO LESSONS LEARNED BUT INSANITY!" - A Lunatic
This quote became my mantra as I waited for solutions to dawn on me.
The Road Ahead
While FriedReads is now live, I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING! There's still so much to do:
- [ ] Optimize image loading
- [ ] Add novels
- [ ] Set up a newsletter system
A Thank You Note
Ahem Thank you to Allen Knet for being a hack!
On a more serious note, I don't know what I will do with this website. I'm just sitting here, staring at it in confusion and uncertainty, but who knows. For now, it is live, and this process felt like it would never end. I still think everything is going to go wrong and this entire site just comes crashing down 😭.
Cheers, Allen
