The Red Pahanat Declares: Dictatorship Is the Way to Go

A Satirical Manifesto About the Death of Free Speech (And Why It Was Never Really Alive)

October 2026

I used to believe in free speech.

I want to make that clear from the start. I grew up in the West. I grew up in a world that told me I could say whatever I wanted. I could burn the flag. I could tell the Prime Minister to go screw himself. I could criticize anyone, anything, any country, any government.

That was the deal. That was the promise. That was the whole point of being Western. You could say what you wanted, and the government couldn't stop you.

I believed it. I actually believed it.

And then I grew up. And I started paying attention. And I realized the deal was a lie.

You can say whatever you want. As long as it's what the people in power want you to say.

So I, the Red Pahanat, Supreme Leader of the One World Council, sole occupant of my living room, and the only world leader without a term limit, am done pretending.

Free speech is dead. And I'm declaring the dictatorship we already live in.

Let me explain.

The Veteran and the Flag

Let me tell you a story.

A veteran. A man who served his country. A man who fought for the flag. A man who believed in what it stood for.

He burned it.

Not because he hated America. Because he loved it. Because he believed in the promise. Because he believed in free speech. Because he believed that burning a flag was protected expression, the same way the Supreme Court said it was in 1989.

He burned the flag outside the White House. In front of the building where the President lives. In front of the cameras. In front of the world.

And he was arrested.

Not for burning the flag. For "igniting a fire in an undesignated area." For "lighting a fire causing damage to property." The charges were technical. The charges were petty. The charges were a message.

The message was simple: You can burn the flag, but we'll find something else to arrest you for.

The case was eventually dropped. But only after months of legal hell. Only after a judge forced the DOJ to explain itself. Only after the man had to hire lawyers, go to court, and fight for the right to do something the Supreme Court said he could do.

That is clearly a warning.

And the warning is: Step out of line, and we'll find a way to punish you. Not for the speech. For something else. Something technical. Something petty. Something that makes you wonder if it's worth it.

That's the system we live in now. That's the system we've always lived in. We just didn't notice until they started using it against people we agree with.

The Israel Exception

Now let me talk about the harder example.

The one that gets you in trouble. The one that gets you called names. The one that gets you labeled.

Israel.

Criticize Israel, and you're an antisemite. Question Israel, and you're a self-hating Jew. Boycott Israel, and you're a terrorist sympathizer. Say anything negative about the country, and you'll be investigated, doxxed, and maybe prosecuted.

I'm not saying Israel is above criticism. I'm saying criticism of Israel is treated differently. I'm saying there's a double standard. I'm saying the rules are different for that country.

And I'm not the only one saying it.

There's a definition. The IHRA definition of antisemitism. It's used to determine what counts as hate speech. It's used to determine what's acceptable and what's not.

And seven of its eleven examples of antisemitic behavior deal with criticism of Israel.

Seven out of eleven.

That means if you criticize Israel, you're committing an antisemitic act. That means if you question Israel's policies, you're being hateful. That means if you say anything negative about the country, you're breaking the rules.

Critics call it "the weaponization of antisemitism." They call it "the turning of it into a cudgel to be wielded against anyone who criticizes the way the present Government of Israel treats the Palestinian issue."

And they're right.

Because that's the game. That's the trick. That's how you silence people without silencing them. You don't ban their speech. You just label it. You just call it hateful. You just call it antisemitic. And then everyone stops listening.

That's how you kill free speech without firing a shot.

The Hate Speech Problem

Now let me talk about the hardest part.

The part that makes me uncomfortable. The part that makes me question my own beliefs. The part where consistency requires defending speech I hate.

Neo-Nazis.

Holocaust deniers.

Fascists.

I hate them. I hate what they stand for. I hate what they say. I hate what they do. I want to punch them in the face. I want them to shut up. I want them to go away and never come back.

But here's the thing.

If I believe in free speech, I have to defend their right to say stupid, disgusting, hateful things.

That's the deal. That's what consistency means. That's what the First Amendment is supposed to protect. If it only protects speech I like, it's not free speech. It's just speech.

The West Wing said it best: "Either it's all okay, or none of it is."

That's the problem with hate speech laws. They sound good on paper. They sound like a way to protect people. But someone has to decide what counts as hate speech. Someone has to decide what's allowed and what's not.

And that someone is always the people in power.

Germany arrests people over pro-Palestinian protest. The UK charges thousands of people for social media speech. Canada is considering legislation that would expand hate speech prosecutions.

These laws exist. They're being used. And they're not being used against neo-Nazis. They're being used against people who criticize Israel. They're being used against people who question the narrative. They're being used against people who say the wrong thing.

If you build a censorship regime, don't be surprised when it's used against you.

The Free Speech Retreat

Here's the thing that should scare you.

Free speech isn't just being threatened by hate speech laws. It's being threatened everywhere.

In the US, the FCC is threatening media. Tech companies are being pressured. Immigrants are being arrested over pro-Palestinian speech. Universities are being targeted.

Abroad, politicians are being punished for speech. Authors are being threatened. People are being raided over memes. The EU is pressuring platforms to censor.

This isn't happening in one country. This isn't happening on one side of the political spectrum. It's happening everywhere. It's happening to everyone.

Research shows "a broad retreat from free speech across democracies, legally and culturally."

We're not just losing free speech in America. We're losing it everywhere. And we're losing it because we're letting it happen. And we're letting it happen because we're too busy fighting each other to notice.

The Declaration

So here it is.

Effective immediately, I, the Red Pahanat, Supreme Leader of the One World Council, sole occupant of my living room, and the only world leader without a term limit, do hereby declare:

Free speech is dead.

It died slowly. It died quietly. It died while we were arguing about something else.

The West doesn't believe in free speech anymore. The West believes in acceptable speech. The West believes in speech that doesn't challenge power. The West believes in speech that doesn't question the narrative. The West believes in speech that doesn't offend the wrong people.

So I, the Red Pahanat, am done pretending.

If we're going to have a dictatorship, let's at least be honest about it.

If we're going to censor, let's at least admit it.

If we're going to silence people, let's at least say who we're silencing and why.

Decree #1: The "Honesty" Act

All governments must admit they censor. No more pretending to believe in free speech while silencing critics. No more hiding behind "hate speech" and "misinformation" and "antisemitism." Just say: "We don't like what you said, so we're punishing you." That's honest. That's a dictatorship. That's what you already are.

Decree #2: The "Consistency" Act

If you're going to censor speech you don't like, you have to censor all of it. No exceptions. No special exceptions. No "but this is different." If you can arrest a man for burning a flag, you can arrest a man for criticizing the flag. If you can silence an antisemite, you can silence everyone. Either it's all okay, or none of it is.

Decree #3: The "No More Pretending" Act

All democracies must stop pretending they're democracies. They're not. They're managed societies. They're controlled systems. They're dictatorships with nicer clothes. Just admit it.

Decree #4: The "Red Pahanat's Way" Act

Since free speech is dead, I, the Red Pahanat, will now be the final arbiter of all speech. I will decide what's allowed and what's not. I will decide who can speak and who can't. I will decide what's true and what's false. I will be the judge, jury, and executioner of all discourse.

The rules are simple: Say what I like, or don't say anything at all.

That's the system you've already built. I'm just making it official.

Decree #5: The "Snacks" Act

All meetings about censorship must include snacks. The Red Pahanat will be eating chips while he decides what you're allowed to say. The chips are non-negotiable. The snacks are the only part of this that is actually good.

The Q&A — Imaginary Questions From Imaginary Citizens

Citizen: "Red Pahanat, aren't you supposed to be against dictatorships?"

Red Pahanat: "I was. But then I realized we already have one. It's just wearing a democracy costume. I'm tired of the costume. I'm tired of the pretense. If we're going to live under censorship, let's at least be honest about it."

Citizen: "What about hate speech? What about neo-Nazis?"

Red Pahanat: "I hate them. I want them to shut up. But if I say 'shut up,' I'm the same as them. I'm saying only speech I like is allowed. And that's the whole problem. The Red Pahanat doesn't have a solution. The Red Pahanat just has a declaration."

Citizen: "What about Israel?"

Red Pahanat: "What about it? You can't criticize it. If you do, you're an antisemite. That's the rule. That's the system. And the Red Pahanat is just being honest about it."

Citizen: "This is insane."

Red Pahanat: "Is it more insane than arresting a veteran for burning a flag? Is it more insane than calling every critic of Israel an antisemite? Is it more insane than pretending free speech exists while you're building a censorship regime? The Red Pahanat thinks not."

The Satirical Punchline

Free speech is dead.

And nobody killed it. Not one person. Not one government. Not one party.

We all killed it. We killed it with our silence. We killed it with our indifference. We killed it with our willingness to censor what we don't like, as long as it's what we don't like.

We killed it when we said, "You can say what you want, but not that." We killed it when we said, "You can criticize the government, but not that government." We killed it when we said, "You can burn the flag, but not really."

We killed it.

And now the Red Pahanat is declaring the dictatorship we already live in.

At least a dictator is honest. At least a dictator admits he's in charge. At least a dictator doesn't pretend to be a democracy while arresting people for burning flags.

The Red Pahanat's Warning:

"At this rate, your children will be arrested for tweets. Your grandchildren will be investigated for memes. Your great-grandchildren will be silenced for thoughts."

"Stop pretending. Demand honesty. Demand consistency."

"The flag is burned. The speech is dead. And the Red Pahanat is eating chips while he decides what you're allowed to say."

The Final Line

You used to believe in free speech. Now you believe in acceptable speech.

You used to think you could say anything. Now you know you can't.

You used to be free. Now you're just allowed.

The Red Pahanat has spoken. The dictatorship is here. The only question is who's in charge.

Spoiler: It's me.
