We're All Talking About Politics and Nothing Is Getting Better
A FriedReads Rant About the Noise, the Exhaustion, and the Futility of It All
October 2026
I have a diploma in computers.
I write articles on the internet. I live in Canada. I am not supposed to be a political commentator.
And yet, here I am. Writing about politics. Again.
I don't know how it happened. One day I was writing about movies. The next I was explaining the Epstein files to my friends at lunch. One day I was reviewing anime. The next I was arguing about oil prices on Twitter.
I didn't ask for this. I didn't want this. But it found me. And now I can't escape it.
None of us can.
Politics Is Everywhere
I can't scroll through Twitter without seeing someone argue about Trump. I can't go to lunch with friends without someone bringing up oil prices. I can't watch a movie without a political ad playing before it.
My friends and I used to talk about games. Now we talk about gas prices. We're in our twenties. We should be talking about games.
But we're not. Because we can't afford to go anywhere. Because the oil prices are too high. Because the economy is in shambles. Because everything costs more than it used to.
So we sit at home. We scroll. We post. We argue. We talk about politics. Because there's nothing else to talk about.
The war in Iran. The Epstein files. The tariffs. The trade war. The Lake America thing. The civil war predictions. The surveillance state. The AI apocalypse.
It's all there. All the time. On every screen. In every conversation. In every feed.
You can't escape it. It's in your feed. It's in your conversations. It's in your wallet. It's everywhere.
We're All Talking and Nothing Is Changing
Here's the thing that's been bothering me.
We're all talking about it. We're all posting about it. We're all arguing about it. We're all outraged. We're all informed. We're all experts now.
And nothing is getting better.
The oil prices are still high. The war is still going. The Epstein files are still a joke. The trade war is still happening. The surveillance state is still expanding. The AI is still coming.
Nothing has changed. Nothing will change.
We're screaming into the void. And the void is screaming back. But the void isn't listening. The void doesn't care.
We post. We share. We like. We comment. We retweet. We do everything we're supposed to do. We engage. We participate. We raise awareness.
And nothing happens.
The people in power don't care. They don't care about our tweets. They don't care about our posts. They don't care about our outrage. They care about power. They care about money. They care about staying in power and making money.
And we're just noise. Constant, endless noise.
I Became an Expert Against My Will
I am now an expert.
I wanted to write about movies. I wanted to review anime. I wanted to laugh at bad TV shows and make fun of terrible films. I wanted to write about the things I actually care about.
But the videos found me. The tweets found me. The headlines found me.
I know about the war in Iran. I know about the Epstein files. I know about the tariffs. I know about the trade war. I know about the Lake America thing. I know about the civil war predictions. I know about things I shouldn't know.
And I can't unlearn them.
I know about the veteran who burned the flag and got arrested. I know about the people defending Epstein on camera. I know about the MAGA cult and their inability to accept reality. I know about the surveillance state and the AI and the algorithms that are tracking everything I do.
My expertise comes from YouTube and Twitter. I'm not proud of it. But it's true.
I've watched the videos. I've read the threads. I've followed the rabbit holes. I've become informed against my will.
And what do I have to show for it? Nothing. Just a head full of knowledge that doesn't help anyone. Just an endless stream of information that makes me angry and tired and scared.
The Exhaustion
I'm tired.
Not the kind of tired that comes from not sleeping. The kind of tired that comes from caring too much about things you can't control.
I care about the war. I care about the oil prices. I care about the people who are suffering. I care about the Epstein victims. I care about the future.
But caring doesn't fix anything. Caring doesn't end the war. Caring doesn't lower the prices. Caring doesn't hold anyone accountable.
Caring just makes me tired.
And I know I'm not alone. I see it in my friends. I see it on Twitter. I see it in the comments. Everyone is tired. Everyone is exhausted. Everyone is screaming into the void and wondering why nothing is changing.
We're all in this together. And we're all drowning together.
What's the Point?
I've been asking myself that question a lot lately.
What's the point of talking about politics if nothing changes?
What's the point of posting about the war if the war keeps going?
What's the point of sharing the Epstein files if no one is held accountable?
What's the point of any of it?
I don't have a good answer. I don't have any answer. I just have questions. And the questions keep piling up.
Maybe the point is to not be alone. Maybe the point is to know that other people are just as tired as you are. Maybe the point is to feel like you're doing something, even if you're not.
Maybe the point is just to keep talking. Because the alternative is silence. And silence feels like surrender.
But talking doesn't lower the oil prices. Talking doesn't end the war. Talking doesn't hold anyone accountable. Talking is just... talking.
And that's the worst part.
I Just Want to Watch a Movie
I just want to watch a movie.
Man... I just wanted to watch a good movie.
But I can't. Because politics is everywhere. And it won't leave me alone.
Every time I try to write about something else, something happens. A new outrage. A new scandal. A new war. A new reason to be angry and tired and scared.
And I'm back here. Writing about politics. Again.
Maybe someday things will go back to normal. Maybe someday I'll write about something other than Trump. Maybe someday I'll be able to watch a movie without thinking about the war.
But not today. Today, I'm still here. Still talking. Still tired.
The Final Line
We're all talking about politics. We're all posting about politics. We're all arguing about politics.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe things are getting better. Maybe I'm just too cynical to see it.
But I don't think so. I think we're all just talking. And nothing is getting better.
And I'm tired.
